The Orbit Pilot

"The Orbit Pilot"  is sort of a futuristic version of the "Coast Pilot" that the government currently makes available for mariners.  In it you will find a schematic showing the relative positions of the 12 star systems you can visit, as well as a summary listing of all stars, planets and satellites to be found in each system.  Each object has data on its size, distance from the star or planet it orbits, surface gravity, escape velocity, orbital speed and activity sphere radius.  Other goodies include a length of year for each planet or secondary/tertiary star as well as length of days for inhabited worlds.   For the inhabited planets information is also provided on the climate based on the size of polar ice caps, oceans, amount of vegetation visible, etc.

OrbitPilot4.txt (38.9KB)

Also included in the "Orbit Pilot" are 'SP.INI location codes' for each location in the program.  The SP.INI file is located in the Starship ZIP archive and will end up in whatever directory you unzip the file to.  SP.INI is the file that is changed every time you set your homeport (H) or change the ship's name (N).  With any text editor you can open the file and change the location to anywhere you want in the StarPilot universe.   The next time you run the program (or crash your ship) it will start from the new location.

Here is the text of the default SP.INI, set for Cape Canaveral on Earth:

Rising Star
solsys
0 4 4 6

"Rising Star" is the ship's name, "solsys" is the system you are in and "0 4 4 6" corresponds to the location and scenery of Cape Canaveral.  If you wanted to be in Cousteau on Oceania, for example, you would replace the above with the following and then save the file:

Rising Star
oceania
0 2 5 1

Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram

Although the absolute brightness of the stars in the program cannot be determined, here is a comparison of the stars' radii and their relative temperatures (based on size and spectral class).

Astrogation 101

How do you fly a starship, anyway?  Here are some tips on getting from point A to point B.

Cargo Utility

Use your Antares 5000SX as a freighter to haul consignments of ore, supplies and artifacts around the universe.  The goal is to accrue enough cash to retire.

This no-frills text program gives you a randomly-selected list of cargos to choose from in each system for delivery.  The idea here is that you run the cargo program in Windows alongside StarPilot and toggle between the two by using the ALT+ENTER key combination to switch between them.  The program is so simple that I do not see how it could harm anything, but by providing the software I make no claims as to its reliability or offer any gurantee that it will not have adverse effects on your computer.

Bounty Hunter Scenario Generator

The StarPilot universe is a big place, and enforcing the law within it is not easy. With this simple text program, you can generate scenarios that place you in the role of a bounty-hunting ship captain charged with hunting down fugitives. To do so you will need to pry clues from the denizens of various spaceport bars, bribe corrupt space marshals, use intuition to guess where the bad guys are going when the evidence is lacking, and all the while watch your level of funds and hope a competitor does not arrest your quarry first!

This program is also designed to be run in Windows alongside StarPilot, toggling between the two by using the ALT+ENTER key combination to switch between them.  The program is so simple that I do not see how it could harm anything, but by providing the software I make no claims as to its reliability or offer any gurantee that it will not have adverse effects on your computer.
