In April of 2004 all that the US Department of Veteran's Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator recorded for Charles F Murray was that he was the "son (minor child) of Murray, No Name Listed."  Charles' presence in the cemetery is a testimony to the childhood mortality of the times.  Charles' father was a member of Company G, 1st United States Infantry, and his mother is Mrs. Murray (E298).  The old 1st Infantry traced its heritage back to 1784.  In 1886 the regiment was transferred to the Department of California.  At the time of Charles F. Murray's death the regiment's companies were stationed throughout the state, Company G was probably stationed on either Angel Island or Alcatraz.
