In April of 2004 all that the US Department of Veteran's Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator recorded for Freddie Thomas was that he was the "son (minor child) of Thomas, A E, Civilian Employee."  The record also had A E Thomas' post incorerectly listed as Wake Island Naval Air Station.  Freddie's presence in the cemetery is a testimony to the childhood mortality of the times.

In April of 2004 the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs Database noted that Freddie was originally buried on Angel Island.  Notes taken at the National Archives state that Freddie's mother's name was "C.E. Norriord" and that they lived on Alcatraz.  From the series of Angel Island graves it can be inferred that Freddie died in either late 1873 or early 1874.
