Mary A Edwards
- Dependent - - 3/7/1882 E 372 82 As a quartermaster sergeant, Mary's husband would have been responsible for seeing to the supply of the troops in the unit to which he was attached. Mary's presence in the Angel Island Cemetery attests to the fact that the army was largely unsuccessful in its efforts to keep married men from its ranks. In April of 2004 the US Department of Veteran's Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator recorded Mary as the "wife of Edwards, No Name Available, QM SGT US ARMY." Both Mary and her husband Will are listed in the 1880 census for Angel Island. Mary as a 22 year old engaged in "keeping house," while Will was a 30 year old enlisted soldier. No children are recorded for them. |
