Reese, Infant Son Dependent - - 10/2/1876 E 361 65 The infant Reese's presence in the Angel Island graves is another reminder of the childhood mortality of the late 1800's. That his father was a sergeant also testifies to the fact that the army was largely unsuccessful in discouraging married men from its ranks. In April of 2004 all that the US Department of Veteran's Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator had for him was that he was "Reese, Infant Son, son (minor child) of Reese, Unknown, SGT US ARMY." Notes from records in the National Archives indicate that Reese died on Alcatraz. |
