- Dependent - - - E 353 - In April of 2004 all that the US Department of Veteran's Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator had for William R Kingwall Jr. was that he was the "son (minor child) of Kingwell, William R Sr, PVT US ARMY." Kingwell's presence in the Angel Island cemetery attests to the fact that many enlisted men had families, despite the army's official policy discouraging married men from its ranks. Kingwell's death is also indicative of the high rate of chld mortality in the late 1800's-early 1900's. |
