George F. Keummel
- Principle Musician USA California - 5/24/1872 E 350 46 "Fritz" Keummel was a principle musician in the band of the 12th Infantry Regiment. The 12th Infantry was created early in the Civil War and sent out west in 1869. The regimental band was stationed on Angel Island at the time of his death. On one of Angel Island's darkest days, Keummel murdered Emma Spohr (E336), the teenage daughter of Principle Musician Andrew Spohr. Keummel then took his own life. Oddly, the date of this murder is supposed to be May 25th, 1872, but Keummel's death is recorded as May 24th except in some notes from the National Archives which puts Keummel's death on May 26th. |
