Emma Spohr
- Dependent - - 5/26/1872 E 336 45 Emma was a child of Principle Musician Andrew Spohr. The old army was very big on bands and Andrew Spohr would have had a high place in one with his NCO rank, which was superior to that of a sergeant. On one of Angel Island's darkest days, the teenage Emma was murdered by Principle Musician George F Keummel (E350). Keummel then took his own life and was buried on Angel Island. Oddly, the date of this murder is supposed to be May 25th, 1872, but Keummel's death is recorded as May 24th while Spohr's is May 26th. In another tragedy for the Spohr family, son Ferdinand (E301) was to die in 1873 and was also interred in the Angel Island Post Cemetery. As of February 2006 the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator mistakenly listed Andrew Spohr as a private. |
