George A Russell
Private USA - Illinois - 11/1/1868 E 315 26 Russell was a private in Company L of the 8th United States Cavalry Regiment. Created after the Civil War, the 8th was organized on Angel Island and the Presidio of San Francisco, before being sent to the Southwest to participate in the fighting with Native Americans there. By the time of Russell's death, his Company L was stationed in Arizona, so his presence on Angel Island is something of a mystery to this writer. The U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs Database records that Russell was originally interred in grave 26 in the Angel Island Cemetery. |
